In addition to Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley is home to several other growing cities, each distinctive in its offerings, yet all adding to the richness of available activities, as well as real estate and business opportunities. These cities include Palm Desert, La Quinta, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, Indio, and Indian Wells. Each fashionable in its own way, Palm Desert claims not only the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, but the celebrated El Paseo Drive—a pedestrian-chocked avenue of upscale shops and art galleries that have earned El Paseo comparisons to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Notable Palm Desert events include the annual Art of Food and Wine Festival, El Paseo’s Fashion Week, and a stunning Fourth of July fireworks show. The city of La Quinta was recently named by the Robb Report as the nation’s leading golf destination, being home to some of the country’s most sought-after golf courses, including the Greg Norman Course at the La Quinta Resort. Hundreds of other golf courses in the area’s various cities are testament to the year-round good weather, and have made the valley home to a number of nationally televised golfing events, including the Skins Game and, of course, the annual Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. The city of Indian Wells boasts not only the Pacific Life Open Tennis Master’s Series Cup, but an impressive range of internationally acclaimed writers, artists, activists, and politicians who visit the city’s Desert Town Hall Speaker’s Series.
Other notable Coachella Valley events include the International Tamale Festival, Coachella Music Festival, The National Date Festival, and the Kraft Nabisco Championship—just a few of the attractions that draw visitors from around the country. The area also holds numerous Vegas-style casinos, such as the Spa Casino in Palm Springs, as well as nearby Agua Caliente Casino, Spotlight 29 Casino, Fantasy Springs, and Augustine Casino. For those more interested in bargain shopping, the Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon lie a mere 15 minutes west of Palm Springs and feature over 120 factory outlet shops. Thirty-five miles east of the city is the breathtaking Joshua Tree National Park, and both Los Angeles and San Diego are a short two hour drive from this exciting and expanding desert oasis.
